About Psychology at Work

Joy Buikema Fjærtoft etablished Psychology at Work in 2006. In line with newer forms of organization she works independentlyg and in network with other consultants and consulting companies on a project basis. 

Joy is a psychologist and has 20 years of experience as an organizational consultant. She has worked for a wide range of organizations: privat companies, local and international, in the public sector at many levels, and with NGOs. She has in addition several years experience as a manager herself - for teams and for a multicultural organization representing over 30 languages. 

Change processes, organizational culture, leadership, talent and team development, coaching og mentoring, facilitator training, communication and creativity are central work areas. Joys background gives her a special interest and advantage for working with these areas in a cross-cultural perspective. Cultural competence is a particular focus area intended to meet an important need in today's global working world.

Joy came to Norway from the U.S. for the first time already in 1974. Since then she has also lived 4 years in Germany (East and West). Her education as a psychologist is from the Univeristy of Oslo and she is a certified specialist in work and organizational psychology. She has also studied organizational psychology at the University in Bonn, and German at the Univeristy of Greifswald. Her B.A. is in English and Norwegina literature from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. .

Starting in 2009 Joy has been employed in an 80% position as a work and organizational psychologist at Oslo University Hospital. She still offers some courses and seminars, development programs, talks, and coaching through her company Psychology at Work.
